Markus Wagemann was born in Wipperfürth (Bergisches Land) and studied with Prof. Eckhardt Treichel at the Robert Schumann Hochschule and with Prof. Wolfram Arndt at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Munich. After contracts with the Augsburg Philharmonic Orchestra, the Munich Symphony Orchestra, the orchestra of the Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz Munich and the Nuremberg Symphony Orchestra, he has been bass trombonist in the Darmstadt State Orchestra since the beginning of the 2006/2007 season, with a commitment to the contrabass trombone. In addition to his orchestral activities, Markus Wagemann has been a lecturer for trombone at the Akademie für Tonkunst Darmstadt since 2010.
